Missing Conversion Attribution Playbook

Investigate bookings that cannot be matched to clicks through click IDs, attribution windows, callbacks, consent and reconciliation.

Editorial information

Missing attribution occurs when a real booking cannot be linked to the expected click or session. It often appears first as a commercial discrepancy: the provider reports bookings that internal click-based analytics cannot explain.

Trigger and triage

Confirm click-ID creation, deep-link propagation, provider return/callback behavior, attribution window, consent/device transitions and cancel/rebook scenarios.

Evidence

Use click events, deep links, provider payloads, booking timestamps, attribution rules and consent state.

Fix

Correct ID propagation, callback parsing or reconciliation. If fuzzy matching is used for missing IDs, retain an explicit confidence level and never silently promote an inferred match to an exact one.

Failure modes

Typical causes include redirect parameters being stripped, cross-device journeys, late partner callbacks, duplicate click IDs and inconsistent timezone or attribution-window logic.

Metrics

Track attributed-booking rate, missing click IDs, late conversion, fuzzy matches and provider-specific attribution loss.

Prevention

Carry stable click IDs server-side and define their return semantics in partner contracts.
